The challenge
The way we plan travel is changing with technology. With so many details involved, my goal was to make planning simple, streamlined & secure, so I researched the pain points people face when they travel & plan.
Research
A proto-persona set the scope. Interviews & a survey fed an affinity diagram, then an empathy map, then a persona. Three takeaways:
- Most people felt generally safe while travelling.
- People feel safest travelling with others, & many would travel with strangers who share their interests.
- Recommendations hold the most influence over travel plans.
“I’m travelling overseas for the first time & trying to prepare so I can enjoy myself instead of stressing. Everything I need is scattered, & I’m feeling overwhelmed.”

What testing changed
Testing showed confusion between adding a recommendation to a trip & saving it for later. I kept the save count as social proof but moved it onto the save button, so there are no longer two heart icons.
An “add” icon now says plainly that it adds to your destination. Drop shadows & a clearer arrow make recommendations read as tappable, & a new tab separates saved, added & suggested recommendations.
